Former NBA All-Stars Jason Kidd and Steve Nash have been announced as first-time finalists and have been nominated for The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. It is one of the highest honors that an athlete in the basketball world can achieve and the organization is extremely proud to represent these men and women. This year, a total of eight players, three coaches, one referee and one record-setting team will be recognized during this Hall of Fame initiation. Kidd is a native of San Francisco, California and began playing basketball from a young age during his high school years. He ended up attending the University of California for two years and eventually entered the 1994 NBA Draft where he was selected as the 2nd overall pick by the Dallas Mavericks. Over the years in his professional career, Kidd played for the Dallas Mavericks, Phoenix Suns, New Jersey Nets, New York Knicks, and Milwaukee Bucks.
Nash is an eight-time NBA All-Star has been playing basketball professionally for 19 years now and did two terms with the Phoenix Suns. In addition to having a career as a basketball player, he is also the co-owner of the professional MLS soccer team, the Vancouver Whitecaps. Nash was also named one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time magazine in 2006 and played for Canada in two FIBA tournaments. The two-time NBA Most Valuable Player is a Canadian himself, although he was born in South Africa to British parents.
These two players will be part of a larger group this year for the Basketball Hall of Fame as they join their Class of 2018 in their nominations. It will be great to see Nash and Kidd recognized for all their talents and hard work, as they are legends of their sport.
